Original Character vs Alternative Character
To give this title some clarity...

Does anybody here prefer variations of a character over and/or without consideration for their original versions?

This can be during a show, game, artwork, etc. Or those made by artists which reskin/recolour a character after the fact...

For example. I prefer Jeanne Alter over the standard Jeanne'Arc in the Fate Series, but I also enjoy art which alters/flips the colour spectrum on characters which are made by independent artists.

As for rules? You may (but not are not required to) include a link to the picture (whether you're for or against alternates) and explain why you prefer your choice over other versions.

I do not have a picture at hand for my example, but I'll be commenting later with my own choice anyway.

I hope you enjoy this idea everyone!

Edit: My question is for you to answer a preference, not bitch at me for asking nor question the reasoning... It was a random thought, nothing more.

Pardon me for not bringing an image because I'm a lazy cunt, but here's my two cents:

Color variations feel like the character equivalent of the generic grocery store brand of foods. It's there, it's just as good, but the difference is minimal, for me at least. Granted there are some cool color palettes that would be neat to see, but a voice in my mind would be nagging me because it feels like a knock-off of the character. It's weird.

Most of the art here is altered, mate. Look at Genshin characters for example, they all have the exact same fucking face in game but here they don't.

Original 100%. I prefer to see the actual character, not some random bimbo dressed up as that character. A good artist should (within reason) be able make a character look beautiful or sexy without altering it in any way.

If I want particular features, colours, etc., I'd rather see a character that normally has those things than a character that was altered to have those things.

Providing image examples would be very difficult due to so much artwork here not depicting characters accurately and the accurate ones aren't marked as such. Inadequate tagging in general doesn't help, either.

I agree.

Good point. Writing the title out in full instead of abbreviating it would avoid misinterpretation.

Very late edit: I just remembered that I made a thread about this some time ago. forum #15077. Don't reply to it, though. Last reply was over 3 months ago.

Some idealization can be nice, especially in characters whose sex appeal doesn't come completely from their figur, but as dolts said, I want to see the character, not the character's face copy-pasted onto some artist's caricature of the female body.

For instance, I find these proportions:

rule34.xxx/index.php?page=post&s=view&id=4785749
rule34.xxx/index.php?page...amp;s=view&id=5880385

a lot sexier than something like this:

rule34.xxx/index.php?page=post&s=view&id=6012018

And then there's a middle ground where the hourglass figure is played up without being ridiculous:

rule34.xxx/index.php?page=post&s=view&id=4649408
rule34.xxx/index.php?page=post&s=view&id=2792104

Alternative characters, I feel they are better for RPs

Depends on how the original or the alternate are drawn. Obviously I have favorite types of figures, so whichever suits those parameters best I will prefer. Also in some cases the original would not even be considered legal here if drawn as such. in which case alternate would be the only choice.

Any character can be enhanced by giving them abs.

I like the concept of variations but at the same time if i wanna see a particular character then i probably wanna enjoy it as it is you know? That said a little breast buff is always nice when done in moderation if that counts.

That counts. I feel that I may have done a bad job explaining what I meant by Alternate Versions.

I mean anything which differs from the original in a noticeably significant way. So you can do straight-up alternate versions, re-colours, re-proportioned (bigger/smaller features), alternate costumes (or lack of clothing), and even minor changes to things like Musculature and Temperament.

Pretty much anything which differs from the original version is a valid answer here. I personally prefer flat or small breasts, but some characters would look better if they were larger... as a basic example.

Basically what I meant by "idealised" and "fetishised" in forum #15077, though you probably shouldn't count "alternate costumes" since any clothed character can change/remove its clothes and many of them frequently do.

Oh! When I say costumes I mean things which we never see them wear in media. So Nessa is never a Maid in show or Manga, but there are Maid costumes of her on R34.

This can also apply to a sex change or futa by the way, as "any noticeably significant change" is applicable here.
